In China， There is a word called ‘禅’， Which means a “quiet” based behaviour, derived from human instinct. I try to understand what this word means through diverse cultures.

Contemplation is deep thinking. ‘Get rid of all external and their own desire traction, to achieve a certain state of freedom’， it has some conditions. It needs a quiet environment， a wide horizon， comfortable light and natural resources.

Quiet environment

Why do they need a quiet environment? They can reduce the impact of the exterior. Stay focused for better thinking.

Wide horizon

Under the broad vision can realize their own smallness, help more real understanding and thinking.

Comfortable light

Natural and comfortable light in the room，provide a warm temperature and an interesting light as time change

Natural resource

Provide a natural perspective and reduce the impact of human activities.

This program is about a live-work collect studio which means I should consider living and working space in this room.Multifunctional/Multifunctional / Spacious / Essential / Minimal / Practical / Economic must be consider.

First of all， I pick up a ceramic artist as my project client. I extract ceramic shapes patterns and colours to use in this room. This room plan can not fulfil all of the functions， so I try to combine different functional modules, on the other hand， Mading ceramic will generate a lot of dust， Thus I set up a room special used for cleaning.

I select three points from past examples about repeating a single module and extract key characteristics about the artist and opposition. In the working space， I used a lot of repeated cubes in this room. Cube could be as a kind of comparison between ceramic and cube. through this design， It can meet different functional requirements. After that， I extract the artist’s pattern to the floor.

Cornelia Parker focuses on many fields, and in my opinion, she gradually from her life perspective to societal issues. It is a huge change.

She collected a lot of silver objects. Such as plates, folk, decoration and used mechanical cars to laminate silver objects by the very violent operation method. After that, she recomposed it as a circle and Hoisted it by wire. It looks full of energy about life. It seems to have given life back to the silver.

Secondly, I was very surprised to have cotton lines wrapped around the body of a Rodin sculpture, As you can see, rock is a very hard material, however, cotton lines are very soft. That is a comparison between soft and hard. It is very interesting.

Thirdly, I watched the installation about Cornelia picking up a room, and exploding it. And then It was lifted and made into a device. It seems that the environment is frozen at the moment of the explosion. Meanwhile, the author set a light on the spatial centre, and a light shadow emerged on the wall.

After that, I want to write about a video which is about making a national flag. As the national anthem was played, the contrast of the national flag was made, and when the national anthem went to the climax, the flag was made from the sewing machine and became a three-colour fabric. I think it is a clever contrast.

Fourthly, This part theme is about policy, war, islands and society. I saw a beautiful room made of paper, and a lot of students create an entire project.

Overall, Cornelia focuses on breaking and reshaping. And create huge composition in her mind.

When Emma told me that we need to make an architectural wearable to introduce ourselves. My brain emerged with some thoughts about maybe I should create something that I want to do. I like the comparison between textile colour time and dark or bright. So I chose that.

Firstly I found a picture of a curtain and rock, I think it is a very interesting relationship between soft and hard. So I decided to pick up the different material masks to express my opinion.

After that，maybe choosing rock to decorate my head is not a good idea, so I want to choose another hard material to replace rock. After consideration， I brought steel wire and wool in different colours to the campus store and pick up some leaves from the campus lane.

The next step is the process that making a mask. Initially, I am not clear about what shape should I do. Through different experiments .such as around my head or Strapped to my hat, But the visuals of these attempts are not very good. So I give up that. Finally, I select this method that soft and hard materials Hanging from my ears and old and new leaves as my mask.

When I wear this mask to express my thought, My tutor give me some advice. She told me that my reference is about solid and flowing material. Maybe for me, choosing steel wire and wool as a comparison is not the best comparison to attempt. Because our student can not obviously to watched this comparison. On the other hand， Maybe I should use a story to express comparison not just a kind of material.
So in the future, I will learn about how to use a narrative story, maybe it will be complex for my design and my audience can deeply and clear understand my opinion.
